How important are the costumes in a play?
As a professional designer costumes in the Los Angeles area, I have designed more than 150 theater productions over the past 20 years. One of the free things to say about my work, as I can show you, is when people do not realize costumes. That is, they were in the game and enjoyed the whole show. That means I did my job and costumes do not distract the audience and grab their attention instead of a person to watch the entire show.
Now, as the attention to a particular character to attract demand in the context of the show, then that’s another story. But make sure that the costumes to work together and to communicate the message of each scene is crucial to the success of the event.
I can not tell you how many times I have to show where the acting was great, the singing went stellar, but they chose the cost of costumes armor cut and ruined the whole experience of the show. See costumed actors that do not compliment each other is sewn evil in the scene or were the safest way to devalue your show.
If I do a show the colors in the set, the lighting of all the ones I have used the actors wear. A thorough knowledge of the period represented in the exhibition is a must.
